Turki-Jandi Set to Be Renovated

Restoration of the architectural ensemble gets started in Bukhoro

Restoration works at the unique architectural ensemble of the 15-16th century Turki-Jandi has been started in one of the most ancient cities of the world Bukhoro.

The project provides restoration and renewal of s single whole architectural complex, including the mausoleum of the renowned theologian Turki-Jandi, mosques, madrasah and graveyards. Estimated cost of the works is 134 million soums, all means will be taken from the state budget.

Recently the office of the weekly newspaper Uzbekistan Today has got a letter from the United Kingdom. Traveler Helen Littlewood wrote what had induced her to go to Uzbekistan, to visit the bewitching town of Samarqand and what she saw. Here are some fragments from her letter.

Arts and Originality of a People in everything around us

They say that the genuine art should be available and clear for all. Probably, that is the point of the decorative-applied art, yet it always was the mass occupation, while its products were applied practically in all spheres of human life.

The national traditions of applied art of the Uzbek people passed over from generation to generation, and now the huge collection of its numerous types, styles and daring ideas of national masters is kept in the State Museum of Applied Art of Uzbekistan. Over three thousand exhibits are displayed at the expositions of textile, jewelry, woodcarving, handmade embroidery, carpet-weaving, ceramics, products from copper and porcelain. Besides, the museum depositories preserve approximately eight thousand exhibits as well.
