Gold and silver prices fell to a two year low today and the U.S. Mint took several products off the market for re-pricing. According to Canadian precious metals dealer Kitco, the drop in gold and silver prices was triggered by "panic selling" where investors dumped large quantities of gold and silver contracts on the market at a loss. Today I received my 5-Star General Commemorative Silver Dollar. Since I do collect modern coins, including the modern United States commemorative coins, I usually look forward to them arriving. But I had a special anticipation for this shipment since it contained a coin that uses the mint's new laser frosting technique.
