OCRE Database of Ancient Roman Empire Coins2012-09-11 01:36:51 (читать в оригинале)I have a few ancient coins, but hardly enough to call a collection. I am fascinated with history and the stories behind ancient coins, but don't have time to branch off into another area of numismatics to specialize in. However, according to a story in Coin World magazine a new database has been launched through a joint venture between the American Numismatic Society and the New York University's Institute for the Study of the Ancient World. According to the OCRE's homepage, «The project will ultimately record every published type of Roman Imperial Coinage, and will provide links to examples in major collections published online. To date OCRE records all types from Augustus to Hadrian (27 BC — AD 138), and links to examples present in the ANS collection.» The database is fully searchable and the pictures of these ancient classic coins are magnificent.
