Prediction of the goat milk fatty acids by near infrared reflectance spectroscopy

AbstractNear infrared reflectance spectroscopy (NIRS) was used to predict the goat milk fatty acid (FA) profile. The ability of cow milk broad‐based calibration equations to predict the goat milk FA profile was assessed. Three hundred twenty‐eight samples in the calibration set and 108 in the validation set were analysed. We showed that the bias and unexplained error were significant for most of the FA despite an adequate standardized Mahalanobis distance (index to establish the boundaries of a population of samples) which allowed us to test the ability of bovine models to predict goat milk FA profiles. Comparison of the pharmacological profiles of murine antisense oligonucleotides targeting apolipoprotein B and microsomal triglyceride transfer protein [Research Articles]

Therapeutic agents that suppress apolipoprotein B (apoB) and microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) levels/activity are being developed in the clinic to benefit patients who are unable to reach target LDL-C levels with maximally tolerated lipid-lowering drugs. To compare and contrast the metabolic consequences of reducing these targets, murine-specific apoB or MTP antisense oligonucleotides (ASOs) were administered to chow-fed and high fat-fed C57BL/6 or to chow-fed and Western diet-fed LDLr–/– mice for periods ranging from 2 to 12 weeks, and detailed analyses of various factors affecting fatty acid metabolism were performed. Influence of harvest year and cultivar on wax composition of olive oils

AbstractOlive oils extracted from Italian cultivars in Calabria Region, Southern Italy were analyzed for their wax ester composition, for three successive harvest years. Three autochthonous cultivars from Calabria: Cassanese, Ottobratica and Sinopolese and seven allochtonous cultivars: Coratina, Itrana, Leccino, Nocellara Messinese, Nociara, Pendolino and Picholine were considered. This work demonstrates the presence of significant differences (ANOVA) for the different wax ester compounds present in these olive oils, taking into consideration the cultivar and the harvest year. The studied olive oils present a good wax ester composition according to both EU and IOC regulations. The cultivar Ottobratica showed the highest wax ester content, whereas Itrana presented the lowest content.Pract...
