The combined external current account surplus of the member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) - Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) - is set to more than double this year to around $292 billion from $128 billion, and this will take their gross total foreign assets to a projected $1.7 trillion (against foreign liabilities of $0.5 trillion), the Washington-based Institute of International Finance (IIF) said.
