The potential pathways to increase the energy storage in electric double-layer (EDL) supercapacitors using room-temperature ionic liquid electrolytes and carbon-based nanostructured electrodes are explored by molecular dynamics simulations.
Electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLC), or supercapacitors, rely on electrosorption of ions by porous carbon electrodes and offer a higher power and a longer cyclic lifetime compared to batteries.
