Over the past two years, the Middle East North Africa (MENA) region entered a period of increased financial liquidity unmatched since the petrodollar boom of the 1970s. Will the economies of the region leverage the opportunity from increased liquidity to invest in new jobs, nurturing key sectors for sustainable growth? Oil markets have softened as sentiment sours over the EU and worries mount over global financial and economic prospects generally. The start of talks on Iran’s nuclear program has also helped temper prices, although they seem unlikely to prevent implementation of enhanced sanctions in July and resultant tighter supply conditions.
