Audi teases us with A5 DTM Concept

After BMW revealed their M3 DTM teaser the other day Audi didn’t want to be outdone, so they’ve given us these concept sketches of their 2012 A5 DTM touring car. Audi Motorsport will present the A5 DTM at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The Ingolstadt team currently use a four-door A4 platform and they’ve used it to great effect as well, winning four DTM titles since 2004. Like the A4 DTM the new ‘R17’ A5 DTM will be powered by a 340kW 4.0 litre V8 coupled to a 6-speed transmission. Using the sleeker, more dynamic A5 coupé as a base means this new DTM racer is sure to look sensational when revealed in its full glory.

Audi urban concept goes topless

Audi has released two new images of its urban concept. This time, though, it’s in Spyder form. We think it looks fantastic. Aside from the pics there’s not much else to add. Audi has issued another press release, but it’s much the same as before, with the word ‘Spyder’ added in a few times.

The future of DTM on display at Hockenheim

Last weekend BMW unveiled the final version of its new M3 DTM racecar. Also on hand for the category’s season finale in Hockenheim were Audi (A5 DTM) and Mercedes-Benz (DTM AMG C-Coupé) with their 2012 challengers on display.

Audi has just unveiled its new A5 DTM racecar. Pretty crazy looking thing it is, too. That’s the style in DTM, of course and this new ‘R17’ will hit the tracks in 2012. The A5 DTM has around 340kW (460hp) thanks to its race-tuned V8 engine. Gear shifts are taken care of by a new 6-speed transmission, pneumatically operated with steering wheel paddles. In line with new cost reduction measures the gearboxes are expected to last 24,000kms.
