At only 18 Adrian Romero Aka Vision is already creating a name for himself throughout the design world. With a very distinct style Adrian’s illustrations are extremely vibrant and spark about a variety of thoughts from its observers. In our interview Adrian explains the intended ambiguity of his art, as well as gives us a run down on how he created some of his more popular pieces. So be sure to check out this interview with another talented designer.
Q Welcome to Psdtuts+, please introduce yourself. Could you tell us where you’re from and how you got started in the field?
Hi everybody! My name’s Adrian Romero and I am a self-taught freelance Illustrator/Graphic designer from Spain. I started playing with Photoshop and Illustrator a few years ago. I instantly started experimenting and spent a lot of time on it, shortly after I was addicted. Ever since then I’ve been constantly drawing. This discovery has definitely changed my life.
Hip Hop Nation Magazine
Q Your illustrations seem to be very random but in a good way, they feature various objects and messages that we wouldn’t usually see together on one canvas. Is this your intention when creating art? And if so then why?
I like my pieces to be ambiguous and I tend to be surreal. In my opinion, the perspective of how we see the things changes the context completely. That’s my intention when I create, I love to create some confusion around the main idea, maybe you see the piece and think thing the same that I thought when I created it, or maybe not and that’s pretty interesting.
Material
Q You incorporate a lot of awesome typography into illustrations like “Voyage” and “Power” how do you decide what type of lettering will fit your piece?
I love typography, and playing with it is one of the things I like most. Sometimes is a headache and I make a lot of changes before deciding what kind of typo I will made. Usually I start drawing different ideas on a notebook, then with those ideas I start playing on the computer till it fits well with the piece.
POWER
Q Who or what were your main influences that made you pursue the field of designing?
When I started my influences came from Spanish magazines like Belio magazine or Étapes and another Spanish artists or studios like Alex Trochut, Sergio del Puerto (Serialcut), Seleka, Vasava etc. But I’m also pretty influenced by movies, music and everything around me, a walk in the night can be one of the most inspiring things.
Life
Q Some designers your age decide that they will take their talents to a University to perfect the craft of digital art, are you planning to do the same? Or will you look to skip that and head straight into looking for work?
That’s the huge decision that I have to make this year. I will finish college soon and I’ll start moving on and see what comes. I would love to go to university and I would love to travel to another country and study there. We’ll see what happens.
Sprains
Q “Destroy” is a simply amazing intricate illustration that has a bunch of detailed features to it, could you run down how you made this piece and what the meaning is behind it.
Thanks! Destroy was a very complicated piece to me. It changed a lot since I started it and finally it went well. I used a lot of papers sketching. The main idea of the piece was to express the contradiction that the word destroy could be, depending on if we focus on the end of something or the new beginning of another one. Then in the piece we have some kind of machinery that feeds itself destruction to create, but not in a dark way, in a way to make the things a new and better.
Destroy
Q What can we look for from you in the future? What projects will you be working on?
I’m working on some projects that I cant unveil yet and I’m also working with the Slashthree collective on something you will see at the OFFF in Barcelona.
Pyramid
Q Thanks again for providing Psdtuts+ with this opportunity to interview you. Any final thoughts for our readers?
Thanks for having me and thanks to everyone who follows and like my work. Bye!

Quick Tip: How To Fake a Tilt-Shift Photo
2011-05-06 17:00:53 (читать в оригинале)Advertise here
Tilt-shift pictures are, I believe, one of the neatest things you can do with a photograph. I know a lot of people that feel that way, but tilt-shift lenses can cost thousands of dollars. Lucky enough for us, Photoshop comes with the capacity to execute this effect very well. The best part? It’s simple! With just a few adjustment layers and the all-important Lens Blur you can turn any photo into a miniaturized, highly stylized photograph. Let’s get started!
Tutorial Assets
The following assets were used during the production of this tutorial.
- London Bridge
Step 1
The first step is, like you guessed, opening up our image. This image of the lovely London Bridge is courtesy of telegram. When creating or taking a tilt-shift photo, make sure that you’re above the area you are capturing or using a photo at that angle. The higher the better but I absolutely love this shot.
Step 2
Once you have the image open, press (Q) to edit in Quick Mask Mode. Select your Gradient Tool (G) and make sure it’s Foreground to Background with the colors being black and white. Select the type of gradient as Reflected Gradient and you’re good to start selecting which area you want the focus to be. Drag your gradient with a small stroke — it doesn’t take much to cover a lot. Everything inside the red gradient is what will be the focus point. Everything outside it will be blurred. Make sure to stop your gradient just before the edges of where you want your focus point. When we apply the Lens Blur it will smear it out a good ways so spend the extra time to get the selection just right as this will make or break a good tilt-shift photo.
Step 3
Once you have selected the area where you want the focus to be, press (Q) again to get out of Quick Mask Mode and back into Standard Mode. The red gradient will now turn into a selection area, showing you that the split is where your focus point will be.
Step 4
Now that we have our selection, go to Filter > Blur > Lens Blur. You may play around with the settings but the default works just fine for this. Click “OK” when you’re done and hit CMD/CTRL + D to deselect the selection or Select > Deselection.
Step 5
Now that the focus is set, it’s time to apply some adjustment layers. Go to Image > Adjustments. We’ll be playing with the Hue/Saturation, Brightness/Contrast, Curves and Exposure. Enter the values I have entered in the images below:
Conclusion
There we have it! Go nuts and play around with the adjustment layers to create your own combinations — I ended up backing the saturation off a smudge to make it a little easier on the eyes. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and remember that this effect can be used on almost every photo (at the angles we discussed in step one), so go experiment! You can take any normal photo you like and turn it into a stunning tilt-shift image with Photoshop’s powerful tools.

A Look at the SlashThree Collective
2011-05-03 17:00:49 (читать в оригинале)Advertise here
If you’ve been a reader of this website, you’re probably well aware of the SlashThree Art Collective. Their members have been the focus of several interviews and have written many tutorials for our site. Today, we decided to dig a bit deeper into some of SlashThree’s 4-year history and present a list of some of our favorite pieces from that time. Let’s take a look!
It was started as a simple discussion forum where artists could freely talk and get away from the average art forum vibe.

How is SlashThree set apart from other collectives?
One major component separating us from the other collectives is the level of enthusiasm and dedication. The energy is palpable, we’re hungry. It feels like we finally have a rock solid staff in place who recognize the potential of the group, and who are passionate about taking it to the next level.
We’re feeding off of one another, sharing ideas and following through with them. We’re in the process fleshing out some really innovative concepts and I can’t wait for them take shape. It’s an exciting time. I wish I could say more, but for now keep an eye on our Twitter and Website for updates.

What are the most important goals you’re attempting to achieve?
It’s safe to say the goals of the collective have changed significantly since its inception, and I suspect they will continue to do so in the years to come. As the collective matures, the tone of the group has become more and more serious. A good percentage of our artists are working as full time industry professionals at this point, so the focus of the collective has shifted in order to facilitate those changes. We are working to develop new avenues of exposure, sponsorship, and participation with high caliber contests and events.
A recent milestone was being offered the distinct honor of presenting at this years OFFF (Online Flash Film Festival) in Barcelona. It was both humbling and encouraging for the collective as a whole. I think for some of the artists it was also validation that the collective and their contributions to it aren’t going unnoticed. In a broad sense our main objective is to just keep doing what we do. Building friendships, improving our skills, and finding new ways to give back to the community that shows us so much love.
