I have a few ancient coins, but hardly enough to call a collection. I am fascinated with history and the stories behind ancient coins, but don't have time to branch off into another area of numismatics to specialize in. However, according to a story in Coin World magazine a new database has been launched through a joint venture between the American Numismatic Society and the New York University's Institute for the Study of the Ancient World. According to the OCRE's homepage, «The project will ultimately record every published type of Roman Imperial Coinage, and will provide links to examples in major collections published online. To date OCRE records all types from Augustus to Hadrian (27 BC — AD 138), and links to examples present in the ANS collection.» The database is fully searchable and the pictures of these ancient classic coins are magnificent. Even if you are not an ancient coin collector, you will be fascinated by the wealth of information and the quality photography.

According to a press release that I received today from the U.S. Mint, the Annual Uncirculated Dollar Coin Set will again be available to collectors beginning September 6 at noon Eastern Time (ET). The set includes uncirculated quality versions of the dollar coins produced by the United States Mint in 2012:
Four Presidential $1 Coins struck at the United States Mint at Philadelphia. The obverses (heads sides) bear the images of Chester Arthur, Grover Cleveland (first and second terms) and Benjamin Harrison, and the reverses (tails sides) bear a striking rendition of the Statue of Liberty.
One Native American $1 Coin struck at the United States Mint at Denver. The obverse features the familiar image of Sacagawea, and the reverse features a Native American and horse in profile with horses running in the background, representing the historical spread of the horse.
One American Eagle Silver Dollar Coin struck at the United States Mint at West Point. The obverse depicts Adolph Weinman's famous "Walking Liberty" image, and the reverse depicts the heraldic eagle with shield, an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left.
