In memoriam: Our friend and Seattle artist, Randy Jones 2016-12-02 03:27:00

A bittersweet turn to the mark of Eyes on Fremont's 20th anniversary was the untimely passing of a dear friend and inspiration, Randy Jones.
A few words and images about Randy from one of Eyes on Fremont's original owners, Linda Jangaard:
"All of us at Eyes on Fremont will miss Randy Jones. He died unexpectedly. He had a wonderful sense of humor and we saw him often whenever we needed a graphic designer. Randy was very important to the image of Eyes on Fremont because he created our now iconic logo.
In addition to the logo, Randy produced our first business card. He used what is now often called the "ransom note" format at a time when this was quite unusual and not commercially available. ...Randy would custom design business cards for each individual employee. It became a kind of ritual whenever a new employee joined us... everyone got to make his or her own card because Randy would painstakingly offer each person several options from which to choose."  | L to R: templates for all the previous employees of EOF up to 2008, and the first business card made for Stan, the owner. It is notable that to his time of death, Randy hand cut all the letters from actual print, rather than using a computer to generate his font. A lost art!
Besides the graphic work he did, Randy was best known for his "found art" constructions. His mobiles were an art staple of our shop for over 15 years. You can see some of the art pieces he made over the years here:

 | Randy at one of Eyes on Fremont's art night openings, late 1996. In the "early days", Eyes on Fremont hosted art parties for Fremont neighborhood's art walk night.
Randy was a kind soul and we thank him for his generous spirit.

Today is twenty.
Halloween of 1996 Stan and Linda opened Eyes on Fremont, and back when they first started Stan thought “I was just hoping to make a living for myself!” Well Stan, mission accomplished. The store opening changed quite a few people’s lives. At this point sixteen people come to Eyes on Fremont and provide Seattle with “great glasses,” and they are the best team in the business. Eyes on Fremont provides our customers with the best value of glasses in the country, and that’s coupled with frames that are as cool as it gets. Possible because of the most incredible vendor/partners in the industry. My best estimation is that Eyes on Fremont has sold 71,627 pairs of glasses to this point, wow! Back when I first started edging lenses here at Eyes on Fremont, I never would have thought I would be writing this letter…but thank you Linda and Stan, thank you for starting Eyes on Fremont. And although it’s a small, because of your foresight, hard work, and thoughtfulness, we will continue to fight the good fight…

Our Soldier's Angels Winter Donation Program was a smashing Hit! 2016-03-02 01:48:00

 | The EOF crew with Tricia from Soldier's Angels Organization (far Right). 441 pairs of finished reading glasses were successfully made & delivered by mid-February!
Eyes on Fremont had another great winter business season & wanted to extend thanks to the community by giving back to the local community. So for 2015, our bustling lil shop wanted to support the veterans of our region: We partnered with Soldier's Angels Foundation to provide much needed reading glasses for it's recipients.
For each complete eyeglass purchase made December 14th- 31st, we donated a set of reading glasses to Soldier's Angels... we successfully donated over 440 sets of custom-made reading glasses!
Shout out to Van Rue & his sales team from local lens lab, Single Vision Express for generously supplying the optical lenses.
And a special thanks to our lab staff, Elizabeth & Emily for working extra hard to crank out 400 extra pairs of lenses so we could deliver this donation at the beginning of 2016!
