Physical activity, less time seated reduced all-cause mortality in colorectal cancer patients

2013-02-15 16:49:00 (читать в оригинале)

Patients with colorectal cancer who participated in more recreational physical activity and less leisure time sitting were at reduced risk for all-cause mortality in a recent study.Researchers evaluated 2,293 patients with invasive, nonmetastatic colorectal cancer diagnosed before June 2007. Participants had been enrolled in the Cancer Prevention Study-II (CPS-II) Nutrition Cohort initiated in 1992, and had completed a questionnaire regarding physical activity and the amount of leisure time spent sitting. Data on post-diagnosis activity and seated leisure time were available for 80% and 74% of participants, respectively.

BLOG: Reduced CBO estimate reignites debate over sustainable growth rate repeal

2013-02-15 16:49:00 (читать в оригинале)

On Feb. 5, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) reduced its estimate of the cost to freeze Medicare payments under the physician fee schedule (PFS) at current levels by more than $100 billion. Medicare spending under the PFS is driven in large part by the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula. Under the current formula, the CBO projects that Medicare payments to physicians will be reduced by about 25% percent in January 2014 before increasing by small amounts in subsequent years.

BLOG: Let the sun shine down - CMS releases final reporting requirements for manufacturers and GPOs

2013-02-15 16:49:00 (читать в оригинале)

On Feb. 1, 2013, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued its long-awaited final rule regarding the implementation of the physician payment sunshine provisions of the Affordable Care Act. The final rule does not create any new prohibitions on payments to physicians and teaching hospitals, but rather sets out new dates and requirements for manufacturers and other entities to collect data about their payments to physicians and other “covered recipients” and submit that information to CMS. Applicable manufacturers and group purchasing organizations (GPOs) must begin to collect this data on Aug. 1, 2013 and report the data to CMS by March 31, 2014.
